Did you know your library card has the power to keep more paper and plastic out of production? Consider the following from the folks at www.IdealBite.com:

  • More than 1.6 billion books are purchased in the U.S. each year. Most inks used by printing houses are petroleum-based. Save paper and oil by borrowing your books and other media.
  • Movie rentals can be $5 a pop, a CD costs about $15 and a new hardcover might cost $25. Why pay when you can borrow these for free at your local library?

    KEEP IT SIMPLE

    Organized paperwork saves hours
The average business loses 90 hours a year — or more than a full work week — because of disorganization, according to an Office Depot survey. Stephanie Winston, an author and Office Depot's organizing adviser, has a "TRAF" system for tackling paperwork:

  • Toss: Trash? Just throw it away.
  • Refer: Not your job? Give it to someone who might be interested in it or is responsible for it.
  • Act: Is it your job? Reply to that letter, examine that report, sign that expense voucher.
  • File: Your only job is to find a place for it so you can find it again. Name it and file it.
