Brigham Young-Hawai'i holds off Chaminade, 76-68

Eric Boyce scored 17 points as Brigham Young-Hawai'i defeated Chaminade, 76-68, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game at McCabe Gym.

Boyce hit 4 of 5 shots, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and made all six of his free-throw attempts to help the Seasiders improve to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest.

Lucas Alves added 15 points and Paul Peterson 12 for BYUH.

Zack Whiting had 29 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Silverswords (10-6, 2-2). Marko Kolaric added 12 points.

HAWAI'I-HILO 80, HAWAI'I PACIFIC 74

Travis Sobers hit 10 of 12 shots, including 5 of 5 3-point attempts, and finished with 29 points as the host Vulcans (6-10, 3-1 WAC) held off the Sea Warriors (7-9, 1-4). Sam Wilhoite added 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for Hilo, which took a 57-55 lead with 13:16 and held it the rest of the way. Rishi Kakad scored 16 points and Adam Snyder 14 for HPU.

WOMEN

HAWAI'I PACIFIC 63, HAWAI'I-HILO 48

Ashley Jenkins amassed 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Sea Warriors (1-16, 1-4 PacWest) beat the host Vulcans (3-9, 2-2) for the first win of the season. Natalie Mitchell added 12 points for HPU, which took the lead for good on Jenkins' 3-pointer that made it 45-42 with 12:42 to play. Sheila Azevedo had 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Ashley Kualii added 14 points for Hilo.

BRIGHAM YOUNG-HAWAI'I 81, CHAMINADE 66

Latoya Wily had 27 points and 15 rebounds as the Seasiders (5-10, 3-2 PacWest) beat the host Silverswords (2-11, 1-3). Kayla Burningham added 15 points and four assists for BYUH, which won the rebound battle 45-30. Samantha Saito led Chaminade with 20 points and four assists.
