A Texas developer has proposed building a 5,000-room, 1,888-foot-tall obelisk-shaped condo-hotel-casino on the north Strip on the site of the old Wet 'n Wild water park. If built, the 142-story tower would be the second-tallest building in the world (about 800 feet shorter than the Dubai Tower, now under construction) and the tallest in the U.S. (the Freedom Tower, on the World Trade Center site, will be 1,776 feet tall). The Clark County Commission is scheduled to consider the application in March, though it will face opposition from McCarran Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration and Nellis Air Force Base.

CITYCENTER SHOWROOM

A "sales pavilion" has opened for Project CityCenter between the Monte Carlo and New York-New York hotel-casinos. The $24 million showroom, which will be used to sell the project's 2,700 residential units, displays models, floor plans, and interior designs, and is open daily.

PALMS BUFFET CLOSING

The Palms buffet is closing, pending a "new buffet concept" at the resort. Given that this buffet opened as one of the city's best before diminishing in quality as the Palms expanded, it's expected that the new version, when completed, will again compete with the best. No timetable was announced.
