TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The O.C." finale, 8 p.m., Fox. Let's give Fox credit: It may have cancelled this show too quickly, but it provided enough warning to let it depart properly. Last week, we saw the aftermath of the earthquake that shook the pretty people in this wealthy community. Now we jump ahead six months to see what happened to the key characters. And then? The CW network considered taking the series, but decided to start from scratch. Josh Schwartz, the talented "O.C." writer and producer, is making the pilot film for a CW series based on the "Gossip Girl" books.

"Grey's Anatomy," 8 p.m., ABC, with rerun at 8. The tense, three-week story concludes, with much of the emotion focusing on one patient. This is the story that began with a ferryboat disaster. Last week's episode reruns at 8 p.m.

OF NOTE

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. For the first time this season, we see the results of viewers' votes. Two men and two women will be cut, leaving us with 10 of each.

"My Name is Earl," 7 p.m., NBC. With Joy pregnant again, Earl recalls a previous time, when his dad (Beau Bridges) urged him to stick with her, even if he finds that the baby isn't his.

"The Office," 7:30 p.m., NBC. At an office party, Michael and Jan admit they are dating.

"Ghosts of Abu Ghraib," 7:30 p.m., HBO. Rory Kennedy is a passionate filmmaker whose documentaries ("American Hollow," "The Homestead Strike") are beautifully crafted. Now Kennedy, the youngest child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy, turns to the unsettling subject of the tortures committed by U.S. guards in the Abu Ghraib facility.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. A basketball player and his cheerleader girlfriend disappear after a big game.

"30 Rock," 8:30 p.m., NBC. With Josh's contract coming up, Jack has a scheme to drop him and save money; Liz scrambles to keep him from jumping to a rival show.

"The Sarah Silverman Program," 8:30 p.m., Comedy Central. Sarah again finds funny ways to make herself the center of attention, this time advising a contestant in a kids' beauty pageant.

"Shark," 9 p.m., CBS. Stark tries to help a friend who has a woman's body in his house. Complications follow.

"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. Abby and Pratt help a family suffering from frostbite. Meanwhile, Gates' father (Stacy Keach) emerges.

"Oprah Winfrey Oscar Special," 9 p.m., ABC. Most years, ABC has only one Academy Award special (with Barbara Walters) and it has little to do with the Oscars. Now that has changed. Winfrey's special has conversations involving immensely talented Oscar-winners — Sidney Poitier with Jamie Foxx, Russell Crowe with Nicole Kidman, George Clooney with Julia Roberts. Walters' special will be 7 p.m. Sunday, with this year's host (Ellen DeGeneres) and three nominees (Jennifer Hudson, Helen Mirren, Eddie Murphy).
