A 24-year-old man was charged Tuesday for allegedly throwing a punch early Monday in Waikiki that caused another man to fall and suffer life-threatening head injuries.

Ryan Matthew Carrillo of Wahiawa is accused of second-degree attempted murder. Bail was set at $100,000.

Jesse Greenwood, 29, was in extremely critical condition with a fractured skull suffered when he fell backward and struck his head on the roadway after being punched, according to a police document filed at District Court.

The 2:45 a.m. confrontation occurred at 310 Lewers St. in front of Moose McGillycuddy's Pub & Cafe.

Greenwood had been escorted by security from the club following a dispute that started when he allegedly tried to cut in to dance with women who were with a group of people, police said.

Two employees of the club were outside with Greenwood when they saw Carrillo run at the victim, jump in the air and punch him once in the head.
