After a wildly successful opening week, the University of Hawai'i' track and field team will have its first home meet Saturday. The first of four Sunrise Meets at Cooke Field will begin at 8:30 a.m. with field events. Track events start at 10.

The all-comers meet serves as training for the team, which travels about every other week during the Indoor and Outdoor seasons that run through the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June. The Rainbow Wahine return to Seattle Feb. 10 for the Husky Classic and a dual meet with San Luis Obispo.

At last weekend's Washington Invitational, the 'Bows set 17 personal bests and had 21 top-10 UH performances. Junior Annett Wichmann, the reigning Western Athletic Conference heptathlon champion, was named WAC Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

Wichmann, from Jena, Germany, won the pentathlon Friday. She accumulated an NCAA provisional score of 4,039 points, placing her first in the WAC this season and breaking her own school record. She is just 11 points off the automatic qualifying total for the NCAA Indoor Championship and is ranked fourth nationally this week.

Meet participants included top-ranked Stanford, 16th-ranked Oregon and 18th-ranked Washington. The WAC Indoor Championship will be Feb. 23 and 24 at the Idaho Sports Center and Jacksons Track in Nampa, Idaho.
