Round Top park closing early to deter fireworks

Advertiser Staff

The state will close Pu'u 'Ualaka'a State Park early today to deter fireworks usage there.

The Round Top park will close at 4 p.m. today, not 6:45 p.m. Normal hours resume tomorrow.

Pu'u 'Ualaka'a is the only state park closing early today. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said there have been problems in the past at the park with New Year's revelers.

"We are closing the park early to discourage use of fireworks, which is prohibited in state parks, and to protect the public and natural resources of the area," said DLNR chairwoman Laura Thielen.
