Authors to read from book assailing Iraq war
Advertiser Staff
Ann Wright and Susan Dixon will read from their new book "Dissent: Voices of Conscience" tonight at the Kahuina Gallery in downtown Hilo.
During the run-up to war in Iraq, U.S. Army Col. (Ret.) and diplomat Ann Wright resigned her post with the U.S. State Department in protest.
Wright, who spent 19 years in the military and 16 years in diplomatic service, was among a number of government insiders and active-duty military personnel who spoke out, resigned, leaked documents or refused to deploy in protest of government actions they felt were illegal. In the volume "Dissent: Voices of Conscience," Wright and Dixon tell the stories of those men and women.
The Hilo reading begins at 7 p.m. at the gallery at 128 Kilauea Ave. Additional readings are scheduled for Maui and O'ahu. For more information about the readings, call Koa Books, 808-875-7995 on Maui.
