Nope, not in the Hawaiian music category; The Divine Miss M's "Cool Yule," a Christmas entry last year, is one of five nominees in a distinguished lot that includes Michael Bublé, Queen Latifah, Barbra Streisand and James Taylor vying for best traditional pop vocal album. One of Midler's cuts even has Island ties: R. Alex Anderson's holiday classic, "Mele Kalikimaka," with the musical tracks mixed at the Avex studio in Hawai'i Kai, involving two Islanders —Johnson Enos and Aaron Sala. ...

Enos and spouse Tammy dined at Mama's Fish House on Maui with music producer Robbie Buchanan, who produced Midler's "Cool Yule," and his wife Betty.

Enos composed a "We Are the Warriors" theme song for a new University of Hawai'i football video produced by Robert Kekaula, KITV-4 sports director, which originally aired on Thanksgiving Day during a Channel 4 newscast and was shared on the Aloha Stadium JumboTron at both the Boise State and Washington games. Meanwhile, Midler's "The Shopgirl Must Go On," as her lavish Las Vegas extravaganza has been dubbed, will make its highly anticipated debut Feb. 20 at The Coliseum at Caesars Palace, in the space that galvanized Celine Dion's career as a Sin City Sensation. Midler's getting big buzz. She's committed to stage 100 performances a year there, with high demand already extending the first wave of the run through March 16. She'll revive some of her classic creations, like her speeding wheelchair-bound Delores Delago, and is ready to unleash feathers, sequins and sass to spare. RANDOM NOTES: The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, on Dec. 23 at Aloha Stadium, will feature a Christmas halftime show starring Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, who will share tunes from her "Generation Hawai'i" and "A Hawaiian Christmas" CDs. She will amass more than 350 hula dancers for her "Hale'iwa Hula" number and a Tahitian segment will showcase four world-class fire knife performers and 10 Tahitian dancers on "Tahiti Nui." And Jordan Segundo will sing both the national anthem and "Hawai'i Pono'i." ...

Former Miss Universe Brooke Lee (1997) will grace the Halekulani's House Without a Key, spelling vacationing Kanoe Miller, from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, starting Friday. Debbie Nakanelua will dance on Sundays (Dec. 23 and 30), with Miller returning Jan. 1. ...

ABOUT PEOPLE: The recent broadcast of the "Weinberg Concert of Extraordinary Abilities," taped at Hawai'i Theatre, included a "Hawai'i Stars" element about 12-year-old Gabriel Miyashiro, who has been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), performing drums on "Wipe Out," backed by none other than the Society of Seven Las Vegas. With good reason: Proud dad is Glenn Miyashiro, one of the resident singers in the group. ...

John and Betsy McCreary (he's the organist) put on a special Christmas concert in their living room for resilient artist Peggy Chun, living with Lou Gehrig's disease. Chun lives a block away; her Peg's Legs army — clad in Santa caps — drove her over in her electric wheelchair, merrily singing all the way. McCreary performed on his full-sized white concert organ (the pipes are hidden behind a false wall) and Betsy sounded angelic. Malia Ka'ai-Barrett, GM of the Hawai'i Youth Opera Chorus sang, and attendees included Chun's family and Peg's Legs 'ohana. Beverly and Irene Nelson raced in from their flight from San Francisco to attend; John and Tiare Finney trekked over from up the street. John shared Oklahoma tales of Chun, since both are "Okies." ...

Chun's book with Shelley Mecum, "The Watercolor Cat," is sold out; Mutual is ordering more, but those pre-purchasing at Maile Meyer's Na Mea/Native Books will get a "Boo" cat print and an "I Owe Boo" certificate to tuck under the Christmas tree. ...
