Free things to do to get into the Christmas spirit ...
1. Lights/trees/wreaths: Driving Downtown with the radio tuned to Christmas carols is sure to steer the Scrooge away. A don't-miss: the Board of Water Supply lights-as-fluid-art. Stroll the grounds and view annual staples like Shaka Santa, and be sure to pop inside for a look-see at the trees and those marvels in the wreath exhibit. If the gas budget doesn't stretch that far, check HonoluluAdvertiser.com for a list of lights in your neighborhood.
2. You oughtta be in pictures: The living tableaux, "The Wonders of Christmas in Art and Song," makes its debut at 5 p.m. tomorrow at Waiokeola Congregational Church, 4507 Kilauea Ave. Church members create four tableaux of Christmas art, such paintings as Fra Angelico's "The Annunciation," and provide dance, narrations and music. Did we mention that it was free? 737-0541.
3. Santa's arrival: Sure, Manhattan has its Macy's parade, but how many places can boast Santa on a surfboard? He'll ride into town — specifically Waikiki Beach (in front of the Outrigger) — with hula dancers awaiting him at about 9 a.m. today.
4. Sounds of Christmas: Can't carry a carol? Listen to Christmas classics:
5. Second City stuff: If you picked the big game over the City Lights parade, no sweat: Kapolei Hale is the place to be tonight. There will be entertainment, free keiki games and an electric light parade at 6, with a lighting at 7:30.
