LAHAINA
Meeting on skate park postponed to January

Advertiser Staff

The Lahaina Skate Park design meeting originally set for tomorrow will be rescheduled for late January, county officials said.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is finalizing a contract to design a concrete skate park of up to 22,500 square feet behind the Lahaina Aquatic Center for users of all skill levels. Preliminary design work was done by Grindline Skateparks and surveyors have plotted the existing topography points, the county reports. A structural engineer has been retained to help with the project.

Tammy Osurman, capital improvement project coordinator for the parks department, said the agency is consulting with attorneys to determine height limitations. Parks officials also met with Planning Department representatives this week to discuss the need for a special-use permit or zoning change, she said.

Skate park design suggestions from the public are still being accepted at Lahaina Skate Company.
