'Iolani did what it wanted, whenever it wanted against Kaiser in the nightcap of the Father Bray Classic yesterday.

The Raiders' run-and-shoot offense was clicking with quick receivers breaking open and quarterbacks putting the ball where they needed to in the 44-0 victory at Aloha Stadium.

Raiders junior Kela Marciel completed all eight of his passes in the first quarter for 104 yards and two touchdowns as 'Iolani took a 34-0 lead.

"I was just focusing on what I had to do," said Marciel, who was a cornerback the previous season. "I wanted to complete passes, get touchdowns and get ahead early."

Jarrett Arakawa, a sophomore, replaced Marciel late in the first quarter, and finished 6 of 10 for 103 yards.

Justin Yamamoto scored on a pair of 5-yard runs in the first half, and Reid Furukawa and Kellen Imada caught touchdown passes from Marciel. Defensive back Peter Takara scored on a 42-yard interception return.

The Raiders racked up 207 total yards in the first half, while the Cougars had 42.

Kaiser got its initial first down with 1:45 left before halftime, trailing 37-0.

The 35-point mercy rule started at the beginning of the second half and was in effect for the remainder of the game.

'Iolani gained 262 total yards, with eight players making at least one reception, and had three punt returns for 40-plus yards. Kaiser managed only 65 total yards.

Despite the big win, 'Iolani coach Wendell Look said he's still trying to find the right combination in the secondary and up front.

"We weren't as sharp as we wanted to be. There were a lot of assignment busts. But for the first preseason game it wasn't too bad," he said.

Midway through the third quarter, Kaiser attempted a 55-yard field goal that was well short. 'Iolani's Breland Almadova, who was standing at the goal line, caught the ball at the 1, headed right, cut back left and was eventually tripped up at the Kaiser 1 for a 98-yard return.

"He made a good play. He made a heads-up play," Look said. "He took advantage of it."

On the next play, Travis Muraoka powered in to make it 44-0.
