Nine volunteers were appointed by Gov. Linda Lingle to serve on the Governor's Maui Community Advisory Council.

The members are IBM Corp. retiree Kay Ghean; photographer John Henry; Barbara-Ann Keller, administrator of Maui Drug Court; Carl Lindquist of Hana Coast Realty; Lorraine Sablas of Ka'anapali Beach Hotel; Kalei Sombelon of Avis Budget Car Rental Group; consultant Shan Steinmark; and Lahainaluna High School counselor Gail Takeuchi.

Council chair is Madge Schaefer, a former elected official in Ventura County and Thousand Oaks, Calif.

The council holds public meetings on the third Thursday of every month.
