TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Tori & Dean: Inn Love" season opener, 7 p.m., Oxygen; preceded by reruns. There's a breezy appeal to Tori Spelling — former rich kid, former teen star, now a struggling actress and new mom — and her husband, actor Dean McDermott. In the first season, we saw them open a bed-and-breakfast and have a baby boy. That reruns at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., leading into the new episode. They return to the inn, amid bad news. Costs are high, and there are mice. They're still leasing and must decide whether to buy the place. And Tori really wants to travel to London and be a talk-show guest.
"Damages," 7 p.m., FX. Now for an opposite sorts of cable-or-satellite experience. The well-meaning Katie (Anastasia Griffith) testifies against the evil Frobisher. She's an innocent pawn, however, manipulated by lawyers on both sides, brilliantly played by Zeljko Ivanek and Glenn Close. It's a sharp episode, with some jolts and surprises.
OF NOTE
"Bill Engvall," 6 p.m., TBS. Here's the episode that was planned as the opener, then delayed. The story — homework trouble — is so-so, but there are some pleasant comic moments, especially from Jennifer Lawrence as Bill's teen daughter.
"America's Got Talent," 7 p.m., NBC. Setting up next week's finale, the show trims from eight acts to four.
"NCIS," 7 p.m., CBS. A bloody car has been found, but the Navy lieutenant who owned it is missing. The staff rushes to find her.
"I Am Mandy Moore," 7:30 p.m., Oxygen. Something seems to have gone wrong with this truncated documentary. It follows Mandy Moore around, as she tries to promote her new "Wild Hope" CD. It also watches her give a gritty new take to her old pop song, "Candy." Still, the film seems only to be random bits and pieces, leading nowhere.
"Cheetah Girls 2" (2006), 8 p.m., Disney Channel. On six straight nights, Disney will have bouncy teen musicals. That peaks (Friday through Sunday) with "High School Musical 2." First, however, is this film, from the same director, Kenny Ortega. An inane plot is overcome by pleasant, pop songs and Spanish settings.
"House," 8 p.m., Fox. Here's a strong rerun, centering on Dr. Foreman. His parents visit, while he's confronting a young con artist who points out that she's not that different from him. Also, Jane Adams (Niles' almost-wife on "Frasier") plays one of Wilson's ex-wives.
"The Unit," 9 p.m., CBS. Jonas poses as a diamond merchant. Back home, Molly finds a dead soldier's 1944 letter; she searches for the woman who was supposed to get it.
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. A girl disappears, after being mocked and bullied by her private-school classmates.
