SAVE THE PLANET
TRYING TO BE GREEN? LOG ON TO THE DARK SIDE
Tree huggers, please take note: Black is the new green. At least that's how the folks at Heap Media view their eco-friendly crusade to get you to change your computer's home page to a black-screened search engine called Blackle.
The search engine — www.blackle.com — theoretically saves energy because a monitor requires more power to light up a white background, according to Heap Media. The idea came from a blog in January that touted the energy savings of a black Google. The folks at Heap Media created their own engine — and if it looks a little like Google, oh well, it's for the planet, right?
