Former University of Hawai'i basketball players Matt Lojeski and Ahmet Gueye will play professionally in Europe this season.

Lojeski played with the Utah Jazz in the NBA's Rocky Mountain Revue summer league last month, but was not offered a contract. He instead will play with Okapi Aalstar, a team in Belgium's top pro league.

"The Jazz actually liked Matt, and that's why he saw a lot of playing time with them," said Ben Pensack, Lojeski's agent. "But they said the roster numbers just couldn't work out."

Lojeski averaged 5.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game for the Jazz in the summer league. Pensack said the Jazz have already invited Lojeski to play for its summer league team again in 2008.

"The goal will be to have a good season in Belgium, improve his game, and then come back and try again (for the NBA)," Pensack said.

Lojeski, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, led Hawai'i in scoring with 16.9 points per game as a senior last season.

Gueye, a 6-8 forward, recently signed a contract to play for Entente Orleanaise Loiret, a team from France's top pro league.

Gueye averaged 12.2 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game as a senior last season.
