Young Isle designers aim to make a splash

J.J. Enos, of Makaha, has been saddened by the exodus of talented artistic friends to the Mainland. The 2002 Kamehameha grad said wistfully, "A lot of my friends feel they have to go elsewhere to be successful in the arts or fashion."
She decided to do something about it, creating a loose organization called Twenty3. It's a budding fashion network that she hopes can connect young designers and give them exposure and support so they can make a living in Hawai'i.
The first event sponsored by Twenty3, called "Nice to Meet You," will be tonight. It's about the excitement of that first date and holds that you only have one chance at a first impression, so you should dress to impress. It involves three up-and-coming designers who will show their collections on an unusual runway — at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park.
The three designers whose work will be featured are J.J. Enos, Andrew Southiphong (aka Andy South) and Shanelle Dragomanovich. Enos and Southiphong have been friends since Wai'anae High School. Southiphong has tremendous respect for Dragomanovich, a Honolulu Community College classmate and a talented dancer with 24-VII, and asked her to show her swimwear collection as well as her new line, "Pop."
The show will provide a brief look at what these young designers are up to.
Enos' collection, called "Lady 'Maica," is women's sportswear with a ladylike, modest and sophisticated vibe.
Dragomanovich's line of swimwear, called "Breathe," is meant to help women forget the hustle of their lives and take time out for themselves.
Southiphong will show men's and women's wear in a line called "Inception," with his characteristic complex and original couture touches.
