Rainbow Wahine finish fourth in MPSF water polo

Brittany Hayes scored three goals and third-ranked USC broke from an early 1-1 tie to beat No. 4 Hawai'i, 14-7, and capture third place yesterday in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo championships at Tempe, Ariz.
The Trojans (20-5) scored four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead after the first quarter.
Lisa van Raalte and Amy Logan each scored two goals for the Rainbow Wahine (17-10), who hope to receive an at-large berth today to the NCAA Championships, May 11 to 13.

HPU WINS FINALE
Andrew Sramek scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th as Hawai'i Pacific rallied past Dixie State, 12-11, yesterday to win its season finale at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Sramek also hit a solo homer for the Sea Warriors (22-28), who sent the game into extra innings with a four-run ninth inning that was spiced by Tripper Chung's two-run double and Kevin Keogh's two-run triple.
UHH LOSES ON ROAD
Dayne Ogawa had two hits, including a solo homer, but Hawai'i-Hilo fell to host New Mexico, 12-2, yesterday in a non-conference game. The Vulcans are 12-32.

UHH SWEEPS HPU
Leo Sing Chow pitched a two-hitter and drove in two runs, and Meghan Jost hit a three-run double as host Hawai'i-Hilo beat Hawai'i Pacific, 7-1, yesterday to complete a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader.
In the first game, Tracy Ryan and Sarah Weisskopf teamed on a five-hitter, and Zoie Sevilla's bunt with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh resulted in a fielding error that scored the game's lone run as Hilo (40-11) edged HPU (32-14). HPU's Sherise Musquiz pitched a four-hitter.
