Kaheawa Wind Power is restoring native plants displaced during construction of its 30-megawatt facility above McGregor Point.

The company hired Ho'olawa Farms to propagate 7,500 'a'ali'i plants from seeds collected during site development. The plants, which are not endangered or threatened, are components of the Hawaiian semi-dry mesic shrubland.

The developer agreed to the restoration after concerns were expressed in environmental reviews of the project. Maui Cultural Lands is assisting with the replanting effort, which will be ongoing over several years.

The 20-turbine wind farm went into operation in June.
