'Chef Mavro' adding another

George "Chef Mavro" Mavrothalassitis on Monday will open his second restaurant, Cassis Honolulu, at the corner of Nimitz Highway and Bethel Street.
Mavrothalassitis says the restaurant will have a casual atmosphere and feature "bistro classics with contemporary Hawaiian regional spin." Items on the menu will include tako-green papaya salad, rotisserie chicken with a plum wine sauce, and li hing mui tarte tatin. The eatery, which will seat 300, is aimed at a wider dining audience than his original 68-seat fine-dining restaurant on South King Street that seats 68.
The original Chef Mavro restaurant was recently acclaimed as one of the Top Ten Restaurants in the World by Fodor's travel guides, based on editors' and writers' votes.
BBB PRESENTS TORCH AWARDS
The Better Business Bureau of Hawai'i has announced its 2007 Torch Awards for Business Ethics.
This is the 13th year that the BBB has presented the awards. Founded in 1945, BBB of Hawai'i is an affiliate of the Council of Better Business Bureaus.
This year's winners are: Dr. Cecile Sebastian, business individual; Graham Builders, small business (99 or fewer employees); First Insurance Co. of Hawai'i, large business (100 or more employees); Special Olympics Hawai'i, small nonprofit (99 or fewer employees); Easter Seals Hawai'i, large nonprofit (100 or more employees).
BOARD APPROVES DENGUE RESEARCH
The Board of Agriculture yesterday voted 7-0 to allow Honolulu-based PanThera Biopharma to possess the dengue virus for research purposes. PanThera would be at least the third organization in Hawai'i allowed to handle the virus, following UH and 'Aiea-based Hawaii Biotech.
The board also voted 6-1 to allow UH to import the simian virus for research.
