"Celebrate Kane'ohe" will kick off its seven-month series of events with an opening-day party May 12 at Windward Mall in Kane'ohe.

The event will feature a number of resolutions and certificates honoring Kane'ohe residents and include music by several local bands.

Organizers hope the "Celebrate Kane'ohe" festival will bring together community groups, businesses and institutions in the area for concerts, parades, contests, exhibits and other activities through the end of this year.

Coordination of festival events is being spearheaded by the Ko'olaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
