'Altar Boyz' in the house!
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Ah, for those heady early '00s days of Christian boy bands. The harmonies! The choreographed precision dance moves! Lyrics big on the usage of "He" and "His!" Say hello to Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham — the pretty boys who make up the faith-enriched fictional quintet giving name to "Altar Boyz." The national touring company of the off-Broadway musical — a satire of the boy band phenomenon and Christian-themed consumer culture — is in town for five days of shows that begin tonight at Hawai'i Theatre. 528-0506 or http://hawaiitheatre.com for details.

GET IN STEP
FURRY FRIENDS MAKE GREAT WALKING COMPANIONS
Here's our third weekly walking tip, as part of the Step It Up Hawaii campaign. Got a dog? Think of him as a walking machine with hair! An estimated 25 percent to 40 percent of dogs are overweight or obese, along with 30 percent of humans. The Humane Society of the United States recommends walking a dog twice a day. This is a great way for dog owners to reach their recommended 30-minute-a-day minimum of walking. Walking is more likely to be maintained if there is a purpose — and that would be your dog. Many people take a brisk walk because it makes them feel good, relieves stress, and protects against obesity, heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer. When you arrive home from work, your buddy will be waiting for you. Isn't it time you started walking?

FINAL WORD
"There were some borderline tears, and some may have exited the judging room and collapsed. It's a long walk from our judges' table to the door, so you can tell by their pace how they're feeling."
