GOING VEGAS
Airport debuts Rent-A-Car Center

By Anthony Curtis

The $170 million McCarran Rent-A-Car Center, three miles south of Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, has opened. The center consolidates 11 car-rental companies under one roof just a short hop from the airport. Instead of renting cars at counters in the airport terminal, then waiting for the rental-car company's own shuttle bus, all customers will board common-use shuttles to move between the terminal and the rental-car center. Forty shuttles costing $12 million now ease curbside and roadway congestion at the airport. Rental-car companies rent 1.8 million cars from McCarran, the nation's sixth-busiest airport, every year.

MIRACLE MILE: The former Shops at Desert Passage mall has been renamed the Miracle Mile Shops to reflect the mall's 1.2 miles of retail space. The change also signals the center's transformation to a "sleeker, more urbanized and contemporary space." A crop of new retailers is said to be on the way.

VEGAS EASTER: You can experience it for another month at the Jean Philippe Pātisserie at Bellagio, where two hand-crafted 7-foot-tall chocolate bunnies fishing from an animated steamboat floating on a pond of sugar waves is on display. The sculpture took a month to design and create, and will be displayed 24 hours daily through May 5.

Q. How many Cirque du Soleil shows are there in Las Vegas?

A. There are currently five: "Mystere" (Treasure Island), "O" (Bellagio), "KA" (MGM Grand), "Zumanity" (New York-New York), and "LOVE" (Mirage). The sixth will be a collaboration with magician Criss Angel, scheduled for Luxor in 2008. A seventh, possibly Elvis-themed, is planned for Project CityCenter, around 2010.
