Two charged in raid on senior home

Prosecutors have charged two men arrested Friday in a police raid on a senior citizen apartment complex in Hale'iwa with trafficking crystal methamphetamine.
Harry Bernier, 59, a resident of the government-supported complex at 66-477 Pa'ala'a Road, and Mitchell Enaena, 32, who lists no permanent local address, were charged with three counts each of meth trafficking, one count each of promotion of a dangerous drug and promotion of a detrimental drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bernier and Enaena were being held in lieu of $30,000 and $40,000 bail, respectively. Both have prior convictions, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records.
DRIVER CHARGED IN HITTING MOPED
A 20-year-old man was charged yesterday with driving his pickup truck at two men operating mopeds Thursday near Kamau Place.
Thane Kapahu, who was arrested at his Kamau Place residence, is accused of two counts of attempted murder and was being held in lieu of $40,000 bail.
Kapahu allegedly turned his pickup truck around and drove at the two moped operators, ages 31 and 32, causing them to fall. One of the riders was hit by the truck and suffered minor injuries.
Police said Kapahu had argued with one of the two men in the past. Kapahu has eight criminal convictions.
KALIHI MAN HELD IN GUNFIRE INCIDENT
Firearm charges are pending against a Kalihi man arrested early yesterday on Rycroft and Kaheka streets for allegedly firing a pistol.
The man was arrested at 1:55 a.m. by police investigating complaints of a man firing a pistol. The man, who has several outstanding warrants was booked for possession of a firearm and ammunition and for having a firearm with an altered identification number.
SHOTGUNS, AK-47 FOUND IN CAR
Police in Wai'anae seized two shotguns and an AK-47 assault rifle from a parked car Saturday while assisting a 21-year-old woman who was gathering belongings from a residence she had shared with a former boyfriend.
One of the shotguns was loaded, and police said none of the weapons was registered.
WIFE SAYS SPOUSE CUT, SHOT AT HER
Police are investigating a woman's complaint that her estranged husband cut her with a knife and fired a shot at her after breaking into her Kane'ohe apartment early yesterday morning.
The woman, 37, told police she was cut on the stomach with a knife while bound with tape before being shot at. The attack was reported to police at 2:30 a.m. and is being investigated as an attempted murder and kidnapping.
The woman was treated at a hospital for lacerations and released, police said.
CAUSE OF FIRE INVESTIGATED
The cause of Saturday night's fire that gutted a vacant one-bedroom apartment at Pi'ikoi Towers is under investigation but investigators estimated damage yesterday at $175,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.
No one was injured. The fire started at 7:42 p.m.
