Hawai'i-Hilo soccer earns second straight road victory

Karen Weatherby scored two goals as the Hawai'i-Hilo women's soccer team shut out Mills College, 4-0, yesterday at Oakland, Calif.
It was the second consecutive road victory for the Vulcans (2-3), which beat Bethany, 5-2, at Scotts Valley, Calif., on Wednesday to earn the first win for the first-year program.
Ashley Warner scored off a crossing pass from Kelly White at the 20-minute mark, and White found Weatherby for another score just before halftime for a 2-0 UH-Hilo lead.
Weatherby scored off an assist from Tara Gregory in the 80th minute, and White scored her first goal of the season on a breakaway pass from Sophie Milam in the 88th minute.
In Wednesday's win over Bethany, Kehau Hagiwara scored one goal. Another player, Kehau Leite-Ah Yo, was incorrectly reported as the goal scorer.
GOLF
MIYAJIMA ON BUBBLE
Maui's Shayna Miyajima is on the bubble going into today's final round of the LPGA Sectional Qualifying School at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Miyajima shot a third-round 77 yesterday. She is at 6-over-par 222 for the qualifier and shares 30th. The top 30 and ties after today advance to the final qualifying school.
Kailua's Bridget Dwyer dropped to 80th with a 79-229.
Hyun-Hee Moon is in first at 69-211. Only four other golfers are under par.
TENNIS
LAM OUSTED IN SEMIS
Honolulu's Chris Lam and doubles partner Chris Surapol lost in the semifinals of the Costa Mesa Pro Futures yesterday in California.
Lam and Surapol were defeated by Joel Kielbowicz and Ryan Stotland, 6-4, 7-5.
Lam will return to singles play today as qualifying begins at the 2006 Meyer Pharmaceutical Pro Futures in Irvine, Calif.
UH NEWCOMERS RANKED
University of Hawai'i newcomers, Andreas Weber and Sabita Walkup, are nationally ranked in the Fila/Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason singles poll.
Weber, a freshman from Huenfeld, Germany, is tied for No. 125 for the men. Walkup, a transfer from Tennessee, is No. 116 for the women.
