Seven district winners vie for State Teacher of the Year

Seven public school teachers from throughout the state have been named District Teachers of the Year by the Department of Education, and on Oct. 19 one will be chosen the 2006 State Teacher of the Year.
The seven are:
Honolulu District: Jami Muranaka, Kaimuki High, science, grades 9-12.
Central District: Lizabeth Horii, Mililani 'Ike Elementary, grades 2-3.
Leeward District: Naidah Gamurot, Kapolei High, science, grades 11-12.
Windward District: Brett Kewish, Kahuku High and Intermediate, science, grade 7.
Hawai'i District: Janice Nakagawa, Waiakea Wa'ena Elementary, kindergarten.
Maui District: Judy Locke, Kihei Elementary, grade 3.
Kaua'i District: Allison Carveiro, Kekaha Elementary, grade 2.
Also honored yesterday was Antonina "Toni" Albios, a custodian at the Waialua Public Library, who was named Employee of the Year for the public library system.
Members of Hawai'i State Library's Hawai'i and Pacific section were named Team of the Year. They include Martha Hoverson, Naomi Kang, David Del Rocco, Julia Naumu, Shelly Brown, Patrick McNally, Linda Sueyoshi, Colleen Kainuma, Dion Balisacan, Mary Lou Chee and Pamela Ho-Wong.
