The Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts will soon start accepting applications for grants. This fiscal year it has $1.7 million to give to organizations for presentations (from art exhibitions to dance performances), education, and heritage and preservation. The minimum grant is $1,000, while the maximum can be no more than 5 percent of the total budget (that's $85,000!).

Applications for grants will be accepted only online beginning Oct. 2. The final deadline is Dec. 18.

To help local art organizations get a piece of the financial pie, foundation staff are holding workshops explaining how to write alluring grant proposals and how to navigate the online form.

Information: 586-0307.
