Hawai'i's Dennis Lajola, who led his second-round tennis match 6-2, 2-2 when rain suspended play Tuesday, was ousted yesterday at the U.S. Open Junior Boys Championship in New York.
Ukraine's Artem Smirnov took advantage of the break in play to rally for a 2-6, 7-6 (1), 7-5 victory.
It was a tough day for Lajola as he and partner Donald Young, the fourth-seeded singles player who won his second-round match yesterday, lost in a walkover to Japan's Tatsumo Ito and Russia's Vladimir Zinyakov.
