NCES Classroom invites students to create their own graphs, solve a math teaser, play a probability game or take an online quiz in math or science. Students can find tuition, degree and program information for colleges and universities across the U.S., or look up statistics about their own elementary or secondary school, or the local library. The site is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics.

In 2001, adults aged 25 to 64 in the United States who completed less than upper secondary education earned, on average, 70 percent of the earnings of adults who completed upper secondary education.

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE

Juniors and seniors in Hawai'i public high schools have until Oct. 30 to apply for $75,000 worth of Running Start Scholarships for low-income students for the Spring 2007 semester. The Running Start program allows students to attend college classes while earning both high school and college credits.

Currently, eight University of Hawai'i campuses participate in the program, including UH-Hilo and the seven community colleges.

To qualify for the program, students must be in grade 11 or 12 in any public high school and:

  • Be under age 21 as of Sept. 1 in the year the college course is taken.

  • Achieve appropriate math and English levels on placement tests at the community colleges or meet admissions requirements.

  • Pay college tuition and fees.

  • Maintain acceptable academic standing.
