STAR WATCH: A pair of "Lost" actors — Josh Holloway (Sawyer) and Ian Somerhalder (Boone) — found their way to Roy's Restaurant in Hawai'i Kai last Thursday. ...
Roy's also welcomed, on the same night, Kirk and Lani Hammett, who mentioned they're expecting a baby in October. He's the lead guitarist with Metallica. ...
Two other "Lost" pillars, actor Naveen Andrews (Sayid) and director-exec producer Jack Bender, were among the SRO crowd greeting singer Loretta Ables-Sayre and pianist Betty Loo Taylor on their closing night together at the Veranda at the Kahala Resort. Several notables got up to sing: Jimmy Borges, Pauline Wilson and Joy Abbott. Soaking up the sounds, in addition to the "Lost" folks, were Kathy Muneno Thompson, Donald Yap, Deena Dray and Peter Rosegg, Sista Sherry Clifton, Nathan Ho and Adam Baron. Taylor does solo piano Mondays and Tuesdays and Ables-Sayre (still looking for another gig) is spending down time unpacking stuff at their new home. ...
ITEMIZATIONS: Nice nod to Eddie Kamae. The veteran Hawaiian music- and movie-maker was one of 1,200 (and the sole local contender) was to be one of 60 Purpose Prize Awards nominees at the Stanford Graduate School of Business' Center for Social Innovation. The search for entrepreneurs 60 or older offers a $100,000 prize to a true innovator. Alas, Kamae was not among the final five. Still, the modest gent said he's "extremely honored ... that my work stands out in the eyes of others. I know the five winners are the best in their field of work, and I congratulate them wholeheartedly." ...
Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, a recent mommy, shares her "Generation Hawai'i" CD selections in a Hawaiian Music Night concert at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Hawai'i Convention Center. Also coming up: her Hana Hou! concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Hawai'i Theatre. ...
Bob Billig, who previously sat in on Hawai'i auditions for "Les Miserables" and "Miss Saigon," is in the midst of a week's vacation from the conductorship of "Wicked" on Broadway. He joined partner Richard Vida for an Island respite, and both were sharing New York tales at a Compadres pupu party hosted by Lisa Josephsohn on Labor Day, with show-biz types such as Jim Hutchison, Steve Knox, Joy Abbott, Joey Caldarone, Stefanie Smart, Deanna Luster and Guy Merola. Interesting, chatter also centered on vodka — Caldarone said it soothes cold-infected throats, while Vida said it's Broadway's backstage miracle worker — sprayed on costumes soaked with perspiration, it cleans sweat, leaves no odor. ...
HITHER 'N' YON: Local singer-actress Yvonne Elliman is still on a high after last month's "Jesus Christ Superstar" reunion at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood. The cast included Ted Neeley recreating the Jesus role to her Mary Magdalene, with Jack Black as King Herod, Ben Vereen as Judas Iscariot and Barry Dennen as Pontius Pilate. The event was a benefit for Youth Theatre America and the Ricardo Montalban Foundation. The sellout crowd included Harrison Ford, Geena Davis, Janet Jackson and Jeff Katzenberg. Elliman and boyfriend Allen Alexander took time for a grape escape, staying with Ron Gibson (executive producer of the Diamond Head Crater Festival) and partner Linda Lou Santos at a family vineyard. Elliman (who was at this year's crater event) also performed in a "Disco Inferno" concert at the Greek Theatre along with such '70s icons as the Village People, Sister Sledge, Taste of Honey and Chic. ...
Besides Shari Lynn, Jimmy Borges and the Savoy Sisters, "Sunset Jazz, Etc.," from 5:30 p.m. Sunday at La Pietra, will assemble several other guest troupers, including Azure McCall, Kimberlei Bradford, Ginai, Sonya Mendez and DeShannon Higa. Tickets are $30 (includes wine, coffee, dessert) and corporate tables also are available. Call 924-7515. ...
