A week of film, music, art, dance, workshops and conferences that make up the third annual GiRL FeST Hawaii starts tomorrow.

But you can catch a few of the spoken-word artists performing at GiRL FeST tonight at HawaiiSlam's monthly First Thursday slam poetry competition. On the guest list are Bridget Gray, Ali Wong, Jocelyn de Leon and National Poetry Slam champion Marc Bamuthi Joseph.

Start time is 8:30 p.m. at the Hawaiian Hut at the Ala Moana Hotel. Entry is $3 before 8:30 p.m., $5 afterward. 387-9664.

ART UP FOR AUCTION

The St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii has been collecting works by the Islands' best-known artists since the 1950s — then-CEO Sister Maureen Keleher believed in art's power to enrich lives.

With St. Francis' two medical centers up for sale, it is auctioning 50 pieces — including works by Jean Charlot (that's his "St. Joseph and Child Jesus" pictured) and Juliette May Fraser — to raise funds for a new hospice.

The auction will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at McClain Auctions (1 N. King St., 596-3900). Preview: noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow, 8-10 a.m. Saturday.
