ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Hit the Heights

Advertiser Staff

Straight outta Dayton, it's emo/alternative band Hawthorne Heights at the Pipeline Cafe tonight ($20; doors open at 6:30; 926-3000). The band released "If Only You Were Lonely" early this year, then split from its label, Victory Records, last month — read the Heights' explanation (something about a greedy record company owner) at www.hawthorneheights.com.

HAWAIIRAMA HELPS THE HAWAI'I-BOUND

Hawai'i's blogosphere is expanding, covering everything from plate lunches to sovereignty. A new one to note: Hawaiirama. Bearing the tag line "More pleasure in paradise," the site is the brainchild of Alex Salkever, a Honolulu-based writer. His inspiration? "Over the years. I have received more than my fair share of e-mails from friends, friends of friends, friends of friends of friends of friends and others asking about what to do in Hawai'i, and for advice on travel here, etc. I finally decided to do something about it." You can find a mixed bag of topics, such as "shady beaches for pale kids," the "Big Island's a Taste of the Hawaiian Range," swimming with honu — and add your three cents, of course.
