After opening in late 2001, Green Valley Ranch has already upgraded. The resort recently unveiled a $235-million expansion with 300 hotel rooms, two new restaurants, 1,200 additional parking spaces, and an expanded race and sports book and poker room. The upgrades are part of a series of improvements at Station Casinos properties that totals more than half a billion dollars.
SPANISH THEME: In more Station news, the casino company says it may finally redevelop the old Castaways (originally Showboat) site south of the Strip on Boulder Highway. Plans call for a $90 million project with a Spanish theme. It would be the first casino specifically designed to cater to the growing Las Vegas Hispanic market.
SUPER BURGER: The Palms is poised to steal the mantle of "most expensive burger in town" from Mandalay Bay's Fleur de Lys restaurant. But while the "FleurBurger 5000" is a kobe beef and truffle extravaganza, the Palms' version is a plain old Carl's Jr. hamburger. The difference is in the accompanying wines: It's a bottle of Chateau Petrus 1990 at MBay, compared to a 1982 Bordeaux at the Palms. The $6,000 price at the Palms ups the ante by a grand.
