Honolulu detectives are hoping a witness will remember details of an assault that stole some of the memory of a victim they're trying to help.

At 10:25 p.m. Oct. 7, as the victim walked along Kalakaua Avenue with a case of beer, he was stopped by two men. Police say both were heavy-set, about 200 pounds and in their 20s.

One of the suspects, a 5-feet-9 bald man with bird's wings tattooed across his back, grabbed the case of beer, said Honolulu police Sgt. Kim Buffett, coordinator for CrimeStoppers. The victim and the man argued but were interrupted by the second suspect, a 5-feet-6 man with short, wavy black hair.

The second suspect threatened the victim with a screwdriver, Buffett said. The second man then punched the victim in the chest so hard, he fell to the pavement, striking his head. Both suspects left the area.

The victim was originally hospitalized in critical condition, but while he has recovered somewhat, he remains in the hospital, she said. Detectives investigating the case say the victim cannot remember much of what happened.

"He's pretty bad," Buffett said. "He's missing part of his head."
