UPDATE: Daiei now Don Quijote

NEW ATMOSPHERE: A junglelike atmosphere � something Don Quijote stores are known for in Japan � is achieved by hanging items from the ceiling, including plastic vines, shirts, flags and sleeping bags.

NEW COLORS: Gone are the green and orange colors of Daiei, which have been replaced outside the store.

NEW FEATURES: Video advertisements � one in the form of a featurette cartoon � showcase merchandise on the shelves around the store.

NEW MASCOT: Don Quijote's mascot Donpen is everywhere.

The former Daiei store on Kaheka Street officially reopens today as Don Quijote with some new � but much the same � mix of local, domestic and Japanese merchandise now displayed in dramatically more animated fashion.

The store opens after a 9 a.m. ceremony.
