  • Dr. Gary A. Okamoto, former medical director of the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, has rejoined the facility as senior vice president and chief medical executive. As such, the 27-year rehabilitation specialist will oversee both the business and clinical aspects of the hospital's inpatient and outpatient divisions. Okamoto recently retired as president and chief executive officer of the Queen's Health Systems. He had served as REHABS's medical director, 1983 to 1992, and part-time, 1996 to 1999.

  • Brian Niiya, formerly with the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles and the UCLA Asian American Studies Center, has been hired as the first resource center director at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH). The writer, historian, curator and editor has served as curator of numerous exhibitions such as "More Than a Game: Sport in the Japanese American Community," "Sumo USA: Wrestling the Grand Tradition" and "'A'ala: The Story of a Japanese Community in Hawai'i." In 2003, Niiya co-founded Historyworks LLC, providing museum project management and consultation. The JCCH's Resource Center has over 10,000 reference materials, including books and other publications, photographs, diaries and oral histories, that document the evolving Japanese American experience in Hawai'i.

  • The Gas Co. has named STEVEN GOLDEN vice president of external affairs, overseeing statewide public, government, and regulatory affairs, employee communications and media relations. He is former manager of integrated resource planning for the company, managing the sales, marketing and customer relations departments. Also, KEITH YOSHIDA has been named vice president of sales, marketing and business development for The Gas Co.

  • Tonia Moy, has been promoted to associate and director of historic preservation for Fung Associates, a local award-winning architectural and planning firm with projects in Hawaii, California, Japan and China. She has been responsible for the design of various residential and military projects, as well as survey, assessment and documentation of historic properties. Previously, she was a state Historic Preservation Division branch chief, Architectural Division.

  • Linda Lewis Ezuka has joined Goodwill Industries of Hawaii as vice president of administration, overseeing the agency's major projects, including the annual fundraising auction and its accreditation process with CARF, The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Before joining Goodwill, she was Bank of Hawai'i vice president of compliance and community development officer, specializing in non-profit work.

  • The Queen's Medical Center has added four new physicians to its hospitalist program, those physicians treating only in-patients: Dr. Yoshio Inoue (at QMC for one year before starting a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Wash.); Dr. Mai-Linh Frascarelli, and a married couple, DRs. Eric Lee and Jane Kim.

  • SANDRA RENO, a veteran of human resources experience in Tucson, Ariz., has been named director of human resources for interisland air carrier, Island Air. She will oversee the Human Resources Department, including employment, benefits and personnel matters. She was most recently senior human resources business partner at Bombardier Aerospace.

  • Cheryl Ann Vierra, formerly owner relations manager at Ala Moana Hotel, has been promoted to director of owner relations, following the hotel-condo's multi-million dollar renovations. With a staff of four, she will serve as liaison between management of the 1,154 room/suite hotel which continues to operate as a full-service hotel, and owners who have purchased individual rooms. Vierra is the hotel's former sales manager.
