Scuba diver in critical condition

A visitor from Japan who got into trouble while scuba diving off Kewalo Basin harbor yesterday was taken to Straub Clinic and Hospital in critical condition.
Alex Mason, president and chief executive officer of aaadiv ing.com, said the stricken diver appeared to be between 55 and 60 years old and was part of a Japanese tour group that had chartered his boat.
"Other divers saw him get into trouble and brought him back to the boat," Mason said.
He said the diver had no pulse and was not breathing when he was pulled onto the back of the boat.
The group had been diving in water between 35 and 40 feet deep almost directly off Kewalo Basin harbor.
The diver was rushed to a pier in the harbor and received by city emergency medical services technicians about 12:20 p.m.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said the diver was listed in critical condition upon arrival at Straub.
Mason said the man who got into trouble was a licensed diver and was not participating in an introductory dive program.
THRILLCRAFT RIDERS RESCUED IN BAY
Two people riding thrillcraft were rescued by the Navy's Waterfront Operations search and rescue unit in Kane'ohe Bay at 11:18 p.m. Tuesday.
A resident and a visitor from the Mainland had launched their craft from Marine Corps Base Hawai'i at Kane'ohe Bay in the early afternoon. About 3 p.m., the visitor's craft flipped, became waterlogged and was disabled, the Coast Guard said.
After failing to tow the disabled machine in, the duo tried to return to base on the other craft but became stranded on coral when low tide occurred at sunset, the Coast Guard said.
On shore, the wife of one the duo called for help when they didn't return. The Coast Guard was alerted at 10:25 p.m. and a search helicopter was dispatched. Both were rescued in good health.
MAN CHARGED WITH FIREARMS VIOLATION
A 24-year-old 'Ewa Beach man arrested with having a gun during an alleged domestic altercation has been turned over to federal authorities for prosecution.
Reid A.K. Mailolo-Bustin of a Kiwi Street address was charged yesterday on a federal warrant with being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.
Mailolo-Bustin was arrested Tuesday night in Waipahu on a complaint from a 23-year-old woman who said he hit and threatened her. At about 10:30 p.m., police went to the Halekapio Street home, where the woman told them the boyfriend assaulted and threatened to harm her during an argument.
During his arrest, a loaded semiautomatic pistol fell out of his waistband to the ground.
TWO MEN ROBBED TWICE IN FIVE DAYS
Police are looking for two men who robbed two Makiki men twice in a five-day period.
Police said one of the robbery victims met the two men at a Waikiki nightclub Nov. 15 and invited the two men back to his apartment for drinks.
While at the apartment, the two men who had been invited over robbed the man who had invited them in and the man's roommate at gunpoint; they threatened to harm them if they called police, police said.
Five days later, on Monday, one of the robbery victims told police he was walking along a street near his apartment when the same two men accosted him, made him return to the apartment and forced him at gunpoint to open the door.
The two men then burglarized the apartment, taking the victim's personal items before driving away, police said.
MAN ARRESTED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT
A 33-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a reported sexual assault in Waikiki on Saturday.
A 23-year-old woman told police she was assaulted about 3 a.m. Saturday as she was getting into her car. The assailant ran away before police arrived.
Police found the suspect yesterday and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault.
