Ashley inventory sale tomorrow

HOLIDAY ADVISORY

U.S. financial markets are closed today in observance of Thanksgiving. The stock listings reflect yesterday’s preliminary closing figures from the various exchanges. The mutual fund listings and some other listings reflect Tuesday’s closing prices. Yesterday’s final prices were not available by press time.

The inventory of Ashley Furniture, which abruptly closed Nov. 10, will be sold at its Waikele location between noon and 8 p.m. tomorrow.

McClain Auctions, which is handling the sale, is advertising the bidding, saying thousands of items will be sold to the public. The inventory includes furniture and accessories in Ashley's 50,000- square-foot store.


DISNEY AUDITIONS SET FOR SUNDAY

Walt Disney Entertainment has come to Hawai'i looking for Polynesian dancers, fire and knife performers and other dancers and singers who can perform at its Florida resort, according to a recruitment advertisement. The company is holding interviews and auditions at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday.


KERKORIAN PLANS TO SELL GM STOCK

DETROIT — Dissident General Motors Corp. shareholder Kirk Kerkorian said yesterday he will slash his stake in the troubled automaker by selling 14 million shares of its stock this weekfor $33 each in a private transaction.

The announcement came on the same day Kerkorian's Tracinda Corp. said it plans to offer $55 a share in cash for up to 15 million shares of MGM Mirage Inc. The transaction would boost Kerkorian's stake in the owner of the Bellagio in Las Vegas and other casinos to more than 60 percent.
