ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Fundraising without tears

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Authors Donna Fouts, executive director of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii, and Victoria Suyat, vice president of development for Catholic Charities Hawai'i, share their expertise in getting people to give money in their book "Fundraising 101: How to Raise Money for Your Club, Team or Organization" (Dickinson Press, $15.99).

They sign copies of their book from 4 to 6 p.m. today and 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Hilo Hattie on Nimitz Highway. The book also is a fundraiser — proceeds will go to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawai'i. For information, call 532-6744.

SEND CARE PACKAGES TO THOSE IN HARM'S WAY

Something as simple as writing a letter to a soldier could brighten a day. Putting together care packages helps troops enjoy a bit of home. Some soldiers need phone cards so they can call home.

If you would like to help, the Department of Defense has a Web site, www.americasupportsyou.mil, that links to organizations that explain what to do.
