Kaimuki's Kim leading state tourney

Kaimuki High sophomore Chan Kim shot a 4-under-par 72 yesterday to take a three-stroke lead after the opening round of the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Boys State Golf Championships.
Kim, 16, shot nines of 33-35 at the Turtle Bay Resort's Palmer Course.
Moanalua freshman Tadd Fujikawa (35-36) and Kamehameha-Maui's Kamalu Kaina (35-36) share second place entering today's final 18 holes of the 41st tournament.
Punahou's Mason Davis is alone in fourth after shooting 38-34—72, and Baldwin teammates Chris Armanini (35-38) and Matt Heyd (37-36) share fifth at 1-over 73.
Punahou — with Davis, Jonathan Khil (76), Jack Sisler (77) and either Rob Kishi (78) or Scott Seki (78) — lead the team competition with a 303 total. Baldwin (305) is second and two-time defending champion Kaua'i (309) third.
Players will start today's final round at 7:30 a.m.
