KITCHEN KUDOS
PBS cooking series nets a Beard nomination for director, producer
The PBS series "The Kitchen Sessions with Charlie Trotter," featuring the Chicago celeb chef, has been nominated for the James Beard Award for Best National Television Series or Segment. It's the fourth nomination in the category for director Robert Bates and producer Melanie Kosaka, both Hawai'i-based; the show won best series in 2000. The episode in question features chef Fredy Girardet's visit to Trotter's restaurant — the only time the Swiss star has cooked outside his kitchen near Geneva. In the works is a new Trotter series, which Bates says will travel around the Mainland — maybe the world — in search of classic cuisine that Trotter can expand on.
