Raymond De Baugh, a longtime chief electrical engineer with the federal government at Pearl Harbor, died Jan. 30 at his home in Las Vegas. He was 97.

De Baugh was born in Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1908, but grew up in Baltimore. He first came to Honolulu as an engineer at Pearl Harbor in 1941, but was transferred to Long Beach, Calif., shortly before the start of World War II. There, he worked on the construction of the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. He returned to Pearl Harbor some years later and lived in the Islands until 1989, when he and his wife, Barbara Buchanan, retired to Houston.

De Baugh maintained his Hawai'i ties with memberships in the Oahu Country Club and the Elks Club of Honolulu, and visited the Islands frequently. After Buchanan's death, he married Aileen Kenney of Ka'a'awa in 1994.

De Baugh is survived by his wife, Aileen; sister, Zasu Rommel; nieces, Barbara Collier, Jeannie Larkin, Kay Edens and CahrLee Huber; stepchildren, Patrick Rowland of Punalu'u, Cheryl Mello of Hilo, Bonnie Kapu of Maui, Gregory Rowland of Ka'a'awa and Lizabeth Anderson of Bellevue, Wash.

A private scattering of ashes is planned, but friends are invited to a celebration of De Baugh's life at 1 p.m. March 29 at Oahu Country Club.

Information: Gregory Rowland, 237-8006. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Solari Hospice Care, 2810 Charleston Blvd., F58, Las Vegas, NV 89102.
