Friday special: corned beef
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Roman Catholics today can have their Lent and eat meat, too. During Lent, Catholics are expected to refrain from eating meat on Fridays. But because this Lenten Friday falls on St. Patrick's Day, that meant the Irish and Irish at heart were facing a day without corned beef. Following the lead of other bishops, Hawai'i's newly ordained Bishop Larry Silva made a special dispensation for today, allowing Roman Catholics to eat meat. So pass the soda bread and soak up the au jus.
