TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Loop" debut, 8:30 p.m., Fox. Sam's life is wobbling at a midpoint. He has a grown-up's job as an airline executive. At home, however, his three roommates remain in suspended youth. Sully, Sam's brother, parties a lot. Lizzy is a pretty bartender. And medical student Piper is unaware that Sam is in love with her. "The Loop" is cast with newcomers, except for Mimi Rogers as Sam's predatory colleague. This episode is oddly erratic. Some moments click and some — including a convoluted thing about airline vouchers — fall flat. Still, the basic idea works. Adulthood seems to arrive too quickly. It's fun to watch someone straddling the brink.

OF NOTE

"Survivor," 7 p.m. CBS. Tonight's show merely recaps what's happened so far.

"Bones," 7 p.m., Fox. Brennan is shot at twice while investigating cases.

"The Biggest Loser: Special Edition," 7 p.m., NBC. It's the second half of a weight-loss competition between military wives.

"The George Lopez Show," 7 p.m., ABC. Ernie must lose weight or be fired. He has George as his adviser.

"Freddie," 7:30 p.m., ABC. Freddie's girlfriend may move to Hawai'i.

"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. In a rerun, the survivors argue about whether to stay at the beach or move inland.

"American Idol," 8 p.m., Fox. The show settles into its regular spot with a half-hour "results show" each Wednesday. Tonight, we have the first ouster from the final 12.

"Law & Order," 8 and 9 p.m., NBC. In the first rerun, the owner of a trucking company has been killed, possibly by a vigilante group. In the second, a reporter is killed while working undercover as a prostitute.

"Invasion," 9 p.m., ABC. The search is on for the violent Christina, who shot her lover and is pregnant with what may be an alien baby.
