UH women golfers tie for eighth in Fresno

Dale Gammie shot the day's best round — a 4-under-par 68 — to lead the University of Hawai'i women's golf team to an eighth-place tie in the 19-team Kitahara Fresno State Invitational at Fresno, Calif.
Gammie, a junior from Wailuku, Maui, began the day in a tie for 65th after an opening- round 80. She finished in a tie for 12th at 148. The Rainbow Wahine finished with a 607 total, moving up from 14th.
Other UH golfers were: Xyra Suyetsugu (76—151, tie for 32nd), Carolina Perez (78—153, tie for 47th), Lisa Kajihara (74—155, tie for 59th) and Kari Sur (80—170, tie for 96th).
Golfers with Hawai'i ties were: New Mexico State's Lehua Wise (77—147, tie for 9th), Oregon State's Leah Whiting (75—150, tie for 27th) and Idaho's Kelly Nakashima (81—158, tie for 68th).
Medallist Selanee Henderson (70—137) led UC Irvine (571) to the team title.

UHH FINISHES 9TH
The University of Hawai'i-Hilo men's team and first-round leader Kevin Shimomura both finished tied for ninth yesterday in the CSUB Spring Invitational at Bakersfield, Calif.
Host Cal State Bakersfield won with 601. Hilo shot 627.
Shimomura couldn't hold a three-stroke lead, finishing with 81—152. Other Hilo golfers were: Colin Gilliam (77—155, tie for 19th), Drew Surmeier (80—161, tie for 56th), Alva Wendland (78—162, tie for 59th) and Zachary Jones (78—163, tie for 63rd).
Nick Bell of Cal State Monterey Bay won medallist honors with 72—147.
CLINIC AT KO OLINA
Sue Kaffenburgh, a teaching professional from Hyannis Golf Club in Cape Cod, Mass., will offer a free clinic today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Ko Olina Golf Club's driving range. Kaffenburgh is one of Golf For Women magazine's Top 50 Teachers.
Registration is not required.

CLAY IN WORLD MEET
Hawai'i's Bryan Clay was officially named as one of the eight heptathlon competitors for the 11th World Indoor Championships, which will be in Moscow, March 10 to 12.
The list is made up of four athletes from the current indoor season's world top-10 and four from the 2005 outdoor world top-10 list.
Clay, who won the decathlon at last year's World Championship, is the only American in the event.
CORRECTION
TWO MORE FOR UH
Two players were omitted from Monday's release of University of Hawai'i student-athletes who achieved grade-point averages of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for fall 2005.
The two are Jessica Keefe (volleyball) and Jessica Rohr (track and field).
