Turtle Bay Resort was the site of The Golf Channel's "Big Break" series. Now Kailua's Bridget Dwyer will be a participant. The Punahou graduate will compete in Big Break VI: Trump National, premiering Sept. 26.

Dwyer, 25, plays on the Futures Tour. During her career at UCLA, she was a three-time National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar selection and voted Most Inspirational Athlete in 2004.

Dwyer will play against the largest and most diverse mix of contestants in series history. The field is made up of nine women and nine senior men who will compete with and against each other. It will be the first time the sexes have competed together.

In addition to other prizes, the male champion will receive sponsors' exemptions to play in official events on the Champions Tour, including January's Turtle Bay Championship. The female champion will be invited to play in LPGA events.

CHARITIES GET MONEY

Friends of Hawai'i Charities, the Turtle Bay Championship and SBS Open distributed $100,000 to 21 North Shore charities Friday. Funds were generated through this year's Champions and LPGA tour events held at Turtle Bay's Palmer Course.

Grant recipients include Waialua Elementary, Kahuku 2000 and Ko'olauloa Community Health and Wellness Center.

The 2007 Turtle Bay Championship will be Jan. 26 to 28. The 2007 SBS Open is Feb. 15 to 17.
