Bulls lose in final of region tourney

Chandler Schermerhorn's goal in overtime sparked the ISC Strikers of Southern California past the HSC Bulls 92 of Hawai'i, 2-1, yesterday in the finals of the under-14 girls division at the US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships in Boise, Idaho.
Schermerhorn's goal from about 25 yards sailed into the net in the 71st minute, and gave the ISC Strikers their second Region IV championship.
The ISC Strikers took a 1-0 lead on Jeannie Krauser's goal in the 12th minute. HSC Bulls tied it on Courtney-Rae Botelho's goal in the 45th minute.
Region winners from under-14 through under-19 divisions earned berths in the 2006 US Youth Soccer National Championships, July 25 to 30, in Des Moines, Iowa.
MEETINGS
FUJIKAWA, BUKES, ONOSAI AT QB CLUB
Moanalua High School student Tadd Fujikawa will speak at today's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
Fujikawa, 15, was the youngest golfer to play in the U.S. Open. His 36-hole total of 158 missed the cut by nine at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. on June 16.
Also scheduled to speak are University Laboratory School athletic director Jim Bukes and Word of Life athletic director Joe Onosai.
Lunch at the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom starts at 11:30 a.m. with the program to follow at noon. The public is invited.
BASEBALL
HAWAI'I TEAMS PLAY AT JUNIOR OLYMPICS
Team Hawai'i and the Hawai'i Warriors each split a pair of games yesterday in pool play of the 2006 USA Baseball Junior Olympics West Championships in Arizona.
Team Hawai'i (2-1) beat the Del Mar Tigers of California, 10-2, and lost to the AZ Boys of Baseball Black of Arizona, 11-1.
The Hawai'i Warriors (1-2) lost to Central Valley of California, 10-0, and defeated Rocky Mountain Red of Colo-rado, 5-0.
The two Hawai'i teams have players from O'ahu private and public schools.
TENNIS
PILOT FUNDRAISER SET FOR AUG. 11-13
The 18th annual C.M Bidwell & Associates/Pilot Foundation of Hawai'i Tennis Championship will be Aug. 11 to 13 at the Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.
The event is focused on helping the Pilot Foundation gather funds to support men, women and children with brain illnesses. The Pilot Foundation donates time and money to organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association and Special Olympics.
C.M. Bidwell and Associates has donated $20,000 to assist the foundation as the tournament's main sponsor for the next four years.
The event will offer competition in men's and women's singles and doubles, in 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 divisions. Draw is limited to 32 entries per event. Entries must be received by Aug. 2.
Cost is $26 for singles ($15 is a donation) and $36 for doubles ($20 donation). For more information, contact info@pilotfoundationofhawaii.org.
