TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"A Bug's Life" (1998), 7 p.m., ABC. This has been a great month to watch ABC on Saturdays. Each week has had a good animated film with "Toy Story," "Toy Story 2," "Lady and the Tramp" and now this one. "A Bug's Life" is one of the Pixar creations, mixing a clever script with sharp computer animation. An ordinary sort of bug (Dave Foley) must somehow stop the villain (Kevin Spacey) and impress a bug beauty (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
"Banshee," 5, 7 and 10 p.m., Oxygen. Sage (Taryn Manning) has been on her own and on the streets since she was young. She steals cars, talks tough and packs a punch. She also has some decency and vulnerability that's just under the surface. She's a character so strong that some viewers will instantly overlook the film's flaws. There are many to overlook. "Banshee" keeps having smart characters doing stupid things. It's over-the-top with its depravity and gore. Despite all that, however, it's visually and emotionally strong enough to hold our interest.
OF NOTE
"Open Range" (2003), 5 p.m., AMC. On Sunday, AMC will debut "Broken Trail," a well-made cowboy mini-series starring Robert Duvall. To get us in the mood, it airs this western epic. Duvall and Kevin Costner (who directed) battle a cattle baron who wants to control the grazing land.
"Bridget Jones's Diary" (2001), 6 p.m., Bravo. The best-selling novel has been turned into an amiable little comedy. Renee Zellweger is perfect as the wide-eyed Bridget, suddenly juggling romances with Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.
"CSI: Miami," 8 p.m., CBS. Horatio rushes to find a kidnapped woman.
"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Kevin Spacey hosts. Musical guest is Nelly Furtado.
