BayFest expands this year into a five-day affair full of musical entertainment, car shows, rides and fireworks. Other highlights include an Island Lifestyle Expo, military display, Coconut Island boat rides and Bathtub Regatta. This year the headliners will be Juvenile, right, Chris Cagle, Staind, Molly Hatchet, Trick Pony and .38 Special. Advance tickets are $17.50 general, $12.50 military and dependents and $5 children 6-12. At the gate, before 5 p.m., it's $12, $10 and $5; afterward it's $20, $15 and $10. Free for keiki 5 and younger.

CONCERT: JULY 1

The sounds of music will fill the night sky at the 5th annual Guitars Under the Stars, with headliner Earl Klugh, below. The Grammy Award-winning acoustic jazz guitarist performs with his jazz band the Earl Klugh Sextet, after Rocky Brown, Mark Tanouye and Friends open. The event also features a variety of food, drinks and telescopes for stargazing. Gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

COMEDY: JULY 7

Comedian Eddie Griffin is up next for a night of laughs. The stand-up comic and actor, known for his roles in "Scary Movie 3" and "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo," has also appeared in the comedy specials "One Night Stand" and "Def Comedy Jam." Tickets are $40 and $50 advance and $42 and $52 on the day of the event.

STAGE: JULY 7-30

Get your mortal coil to the 5th annual Hawaii Shakespeare Festival. The comic romance "Much Ado About Nothing" opens July 7, followed by the dramatic love story "Antony and Cleopatra" July 15 and "Comedy of Errors" July 22. Season tickets are $42, with admission to individual shows at $18 general, $16 seniors and military and $10 students.

DANCE: JULY 8

The Prince Lot Hula Festival, below, the state's oldest and largest non-competitive showcase, features hula kahiko and 'auana, along with Hawaiian arts and crafts and ancient Hawaiian games. This year, the festival is on the second Saturday in July instead of the usual third Saturday to avoid conflict with other planned hula events. Admission is $3.

FAMILY TIES: JULY 8

ArtSpree 2006 features family fun with entertainment, demonstrations and activities geared for all ages. The event includes hands-on interactive arts and performance art by Tangentz, The Philippine Cultural Group of Hawaii, slam poetry by Kealoha, James McCarthy Irish Band, Hawaii Opera Theatre and others. Current exhibits at the museum are "Alimatuan: The Emerging Artist as American-Filipino" and "O2art." ArtSpree offers free shuttle service to and from Punahou School; public parking and drop-off will not be allowed at the museum that day. Admission is free. The Honolulu Advertiser is a sponsor.

FESTIVAL: JULY 15

"See, Taste, Listen Korea!" is the theme of the 5th annual Korean Festival. The daylong celebration features Korean music, dance, food, cultural displays, family activities and a Korean film. Admission is free.

DANCE: JULY 20-22

The 31st annual Queen Lili'uokalani Keiki Hula Competition, right, features three days of Hawai'i's children dancing to honor the birthday anniversary of Hawai'i's last queen. Twenty-three halau with keiki ages 5 to 12 will showcase their hula and chants in the solo, hula kahiko and hula 'auana divisions. Tickets are $10 for the arena and loges and $8.50 for the upper level.

OPERA: JULY 21-30

It's another HOT summer as Hawaii Opera Theatre brings the Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical "The King & I" to the stage. Richard Chamberlain stars as the king, and other featured performers include Jan Maxwell, Jordan Segundo and Kristian Lei. Martin Rabbett directs. Tickets are $20-$75 for the regular performances. July 22 is military and group night, with $25 tickets for military ID or group purchases of at least 20 tickets. On July 29, enjoy a children's matinee with tickets of $10 for ages 12 and younger and $25 for adult companions.

COMEDY: JULY 22

"An Evening with Damon Wayans" features the star of the sitcom "My Wife and Kids" in living color at the Shell. Expect his standup material to be a little more raw than his generic TV show. Tickets are $50 and $65 reserved and $35 general.
