A 15-year-old boy was arrested early yesterday after allegedly attacking his mother and adoptive father with a knife at a home on the Pearl Harbor naval base, leaving the couple in critical condition, police said.
The attacks happened about 12:18 a.m. at 3244 Peterson Court, and police said the boy was arrested on one count of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder.
The victims were a 27-year-old man and his wife, 31. Lt. Barbara Mertz, a Navy spokeswoman, confirmed the man is a Pacific Fleet Command sailor. She declined to comment further.
Police said the victims were attacked at their home with a large knife and suffered wounds to their heads, among other injuries. They were taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
Neighbors told police they saw the boy standing over the 27-year-old man "in a threatening posture" after the stabbing. Police said one neighbor confronted the boy, whose clothes were soaked in blood, and he fled.
The boy was later found on the base and arrested. He was taken to Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children with lacerations to his fingers and released into police custody. He was being interviewed by a detective yesterday.
Police said the couple was under sedation and have not yet talked to officers.
Also early yesterday, Waikiki police responded to three major incidents: A stabbing on Kalakaua Avenue left a 16-year-old boy in serious condition; a man in his 30s was critically injured after a fight; and a 24-year-old woman was threatened at a stoplight by a fellow driver, who pointed a rifle at her and then sped off.
The stabbing in Waikiki happened about 12:01 a.m. in front of an ABC Store at the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua avenues.
The 16-year-old victim was listed in serious condition. A 20-year-old man, who was identified by the victim at the scene, was arrested for second-degree assault. He had not been charged.
Also in Waikiki yesterday, police responded to an assault at 2370 Kuhio Ave. that left a man in his 30s in critical condition.
Police said the victim in the assault sustained head injuries after an apparent argument with a 20-year-old man. The fight happened at 1:14 a.m.
Police were not able to locate the suspect. The victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, city Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.
An hour earlier, about 12:11 a.m., Waikiki police officers said they arrested a 54-year-old man who pointed a rifle at a 24-year-old woman. The man was arrested for first-degree terroristic threatening. Police said the woman had honked her horn at the man because he had been driving erratically. When the two came to a stop at a light on Ala Moana, the man threatened her with the rifle, police said. The woman took down the man's license plate number and called police. He was arrested shortly afterward but had not been charged last night.
